Rennie 66 defeated Mathoura 27.
What a great first round for the young Rennie A grade. The average age of the team being 17. The leadership from the oldest player and assistant coach Brooke McDougall was outstanding.
It was exciting to see the return of past Juniors Brylee McCarty, Eliza York and Brooke Bigger. The dedication of Hannah Shoppee, Brooke Knight, Ella Rhodes, Sophia Shaw and Abbey Coghill through the development program is really starting to benefit the club.
The drive through the attacking end and the meticulous passing was enjoyable to watch.
The defensive end was solid and the girls made the most of every opportunity that was presented.
The shooters were impressive with their accuracy and converted the many intercepts taken down the court. A positive start to an exciting season.
Awards: Miss Dolly - Brylee McCarty, Yarrawonga Hotel - Eliza York, Publican's Daughter - Brooke McDougall, Bundalong Tavern - Ella Rhodes.
B Grade
Rennie 32 defeated by Mathoura 53.
The first round turned out to be a learning curve for the Hopper girls this week. After last season’s efforts the girls were keen, determined and dedicated to listening and learning from the leadership team.
The first quarter saw everyone working hard to find where their role was on the court and allowing time to work on passing.
The rest of the game allowed the team to show its strengths in speed, communication and forcing contests across the court.
Unfortunately, the score slowly kept creeping away from where the Hoppers wanted it to be, yet they have many great things to come from this game and can’t wait to get back into training and bring on the next game.

Rennie 71 defeated Mathoura 36.
What a way to start off the 2022 season. Coming together to play as a team, and also playing for the opposition!
Mathoura U17s were short a player for the game, and the Rennie girls showed incredible sportsmanship by filling in.
The first round showcased the ability to be versatile on the court and how having multiple combinations for each area on the court is going to play to Rennie’s advantage.
Strong defensive pressure across the court and using voices to communicate with each other and giving direction played a major role in the first win for the season.
Also, a huge congratulations to this year’s leadership team for 2022: Captain – Ella Rhodes and Vice-Captain – Sophie O’Dwyer.

The girls came out firing this week with an early lead and worked hard as a new team who have not played together before but watching them it looked like they had played with each other for years.
The defence worked hard to see many intercepts taken by all and paired with the accuracy of the Hopper shooters the girls were unstoppable.
What a great first game and let’s bring on 2022.

The girls played an amazing first game, they listened to advice given, looked out for each other, watched the play and blended so well.
The girls in defence put plenty of pressure on the other team resulting in many turnovers, allowing it to work its way down to the shooters who worked their way around the ring beautifully. Good game girls!
