In December, the women’s golfing team from YMGCR won the Summer Pennant final for the second year in a row.
Summer Pennant is an annual four ball match play competition between Benalla, Corowa, Wangaratta and Yarrawonga Mulwala.
The team, captained by Glenys Durrant, started the six- week season poorly but played its last three matches convincingly to finish second and then went on to defeat Benalla in the final held at Wangaratta Golf Club on December 2.
Team manager, Jo Anwin, said “The girls were bottom of the ladder half-way through the competition but dug deep to get into the final.
“The weather on the day was poor but the girls held their nerve to win the first two matches with the third declared a squared match as we had won the trophy. “Although only six of the team could play in the final, all of them contributed to getting the team into the final and therefore becoming the winners.
“A great effort.”
This trophy has now been won by Yarrawonga Mulwala for many of the past years.
Team members this year were Glenys Durrant, Pam Andreasen, Irene Cocks, Margaret Jackson, Liz Jensen, Edith Mason, Chris Moloney, Maree Old, Joyce White, Paula Elliott (emergency).

Nine Holers generous donation
The Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort Nine Holers have very generously donated $1535 to the brain cancer research at Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation.
Through their collection and contribution of cans and bottles at the laundromat in Mulwala, the nine holers were able to raise the fantastic amount to assist research.
The idea to donate towards brain cancer came after a number of the golfers had seen and heard about numerous little children with the devastating illness.
The money was always going to be donated to brain cancer research but was originally hoped to be donated to the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre, however they do not have a brain cancer research centre.
Omar Persuad had the pleasure of personally handing the cheque over with Executive Director of the Peter Mac Foundation Jennifer Doubell responding: “Your generous contribution will help support Peter Mac’s ground - breaking research,
ensuring the discoveries made in our research laboratories reach the patients in our clinics as quickly as possible.
“It’s an important, lifesaving contribution. Thank you.”
