This funding will see a purpose-built men’s shed on council-leased land for Benalla Men's Shed and community use.

“Congratulations to the Benalla shedders who can now start work on building their new home,” Ms Symes said.

“Men’s sheds are vitally important spaces for men in our area to socialise, have a cuppa, learn new skills and give back to the community.

“I am delighted this funding will help more people and look forward to hearing about the results of this project in the months to come.”

Victorian Men’s Shed Association executive officer Ric Blackburn said this type of grant was vital.

“These grants have huge benefit to each area, helping build capacity, strengthen support networks and contributing to communities in an extraordinary way,” Mr Blackburn said.

Across Victoria, new men’s sheds will be constructed in eight communities, while 15 other sheds will be refurbished across Victoria, thanks to $879 000 in grants from the Victorian Government.

Men’s sheds are safe and productive spaces for men to work on common projects, and actively participate in their local community.

They also help improve the health and wellbeing of participants by promoting social inclusion.

There are more than 1000 sheds across the country, with over 360 in Victoria.

The Victorian Government is a proud supporter of men’s sheds and recognises the important role they play in bringing the community together.
