Recently voluntary members from both the Centre and Conference, the two components of St Vincent de Paul Society in Corowa, released a history of the Society in Corowa before joining together at a morning tea to close their 90th anniversary week’s celebrations.
Budding young artists from St Mary’s Primary School created posters during their last week of term, depicting the Societies activities in the Corowa community, and these were used to decorate the Centre’s windows, walk- way and St Mary’s Church.
‘Vinnies’ Centre voluntary Staff rewarded shoppers who purchased an item during the 90th anniversary week with an entry into a Hamper raffle, drawn by Marj Tomlinson at the concluding morning tea, that was won by a Rutherglen resident.
Conference members were busy during the week interviewing people seeking assistance at their office, while other members of this group visited Karinya and Corowa Aged Care.
The conference members began planning their annual “Christmas Hamper” program, again appealing to the community, businesses and schools for donations of food items.
With toys in hand, there is a greater focus on non-perishable foods for this year’s hampers that will be distributed on a needs basis identified at prior interviews.
Ongoing community support will ensure both the Centre and Conference members can continue the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society in Corowa through to the next milestone – 100th years, in 2029.
