Hines Construction Site Manager Simon Green said works were progressing nicely with the completion of the new facility still scheduled for March 2021.
“It’s looking great. Everything is going smoothly,” Mr Green told The Free Press.
“We should have most of the roofing done in the next week or so.”
After a decade long community push for an upgrade to the former Corowa swimming pool, Federation Council engaged Hines Construction to deliver the new $10.3-million-dollar facility, which consists of a heated 25-metre indoor pool a 50-metre pool, and splash park.
“This complex is one of the biggest sites I’ve worked on, so it is guaranteed to be a good facility. It’s a decent size too. It has got top of the line play equipment, slippery dips, bubblers and all that sort of stuff,” Mr Green said.
“The quality of this particular design chosen by the council means that the pool should last up to 80 or 90 years.”
To date, the first pour for the 50-metre pool wall and the first half of the amenities slab pour are complete, as well as the installation of blinding and pipework 25-metre pool.
“Apart from the roof going up, the main works going on are finishing off the walls of the 50-metre pool. We will start water tests in about a fortnight. We will fill it all up and make sure there are no leaks,” Mr Green said.
Working alongside Mr Green at the Corowa construction site is second-year apprentice Jackson Stanmore who is completing his Certificate III in Carpentry.
“I think it looks great. Everything is going smoothly,” Mr Stanmore said.
The Bathurst local has worked on a handful of other swimming pool constructions, including Wellington and Blayney.
“I like Corowa. It’s a nice town and the people are friendly,” the 22-year-old said.
As works progress on the Ball Park project, council staff have undertaken colour selection of the new facility for items such as shade sails and applied paint colours which will mirror Federation Council’s corporate brand.
