Golfers were back on the superb Corowa Golf Course last week, with golf having resumed seven days a week for local members as from yesterday, Tuesday, April 21.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, several social restrictions apply but it may not be long before competition golf resumes after the enforced six-week suspension.
The 27-hole championship course is in superb condition due to a number of the club’s groundstaff working during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Groundstaff have been working through. We’re using the jobkeeping scheme (Federal Government funded) well,” Corowa Golf Club General Manager Daniel Peacock told The Free Press. We have 38 staff in total and everyone of them has put their hand up to volunteer their time.
“We have been tidying up inside and outside the clubhouse and a lot of work has been done on the course by groundstaff and volunteers.”
Mr Peacock was full of praise for everyone who has helped out and continuing to do so. “I am ecstatic, absolutely thrilled all the volunteers have pulled together in this difficult time.
“It brings to the core of what a club means.”
Two of those volunteers, Bob Parr and Steve Carrick, have also taken on the roles of joint project co-ordinators of the club’s shade sail project to be installed between the clubhouse the pro shop.
The $40,000 16m x 7m area project size was the result of a successful NSW State Government grant application.
“It will have outdoor furniture and will be somewhat of an amphitheater,” the General Manager said. It will take two to three months.”
With recent rains, the course is beautifully green. Commenting on the enforced cancellation of golf and later resumption than some other clubs, Pro Shop head professional Rob Rowe said: “We have an ageing membership and take the pandemic seriously.
“But the players who were back having a hit enjoyed a bit of fresh air.”
The club’s Board of Directors is working tirelessly, Mr Peacock said, in reviewing many aspects going forward. “We’ll come back bigger and better,” he predicted.
Excellent new membership offer
Corowa Golf Club is embarking on a membership drive and is offering great value with a $199 membership for 17 months, to September 2021. That’s great value.
“We’d welcome every new member,” Mr Peacock said. “With people not being able to play their regular winter sport they might like to come and try golf and hopefully join up to what is the world’s most played sport.
“We are proud of our course, playing golf in a wonderful environment of nature and the friendships you can make, we hope many women and men take this excellent membership offer.”
