Moama snapper wins calendar competition

First place winner in the GrainGrowers calendar competition is Annabel O’Dea from Moama, with her photo ‘Harvesting canola during golden hour’.

A Moama woman has won the GrainGrowers annual calendar competition, which provides Australian grain growers the opportunity to showcase the beauty of farm life through photography.

Annabel O’Dea won the $1000 first prize for her photo ‘Harvesting canola during golden hour.’ Her photo was praised for its technical expertise and its use of light to highlight dust from the harvester.

GrainGrowers chief executive officer Shona Gawel said the annual competition highlights the behind-the-scenes work of growers and the beauty of Australian agriculture.

“The calendar competition has been running for many years and choosing the winning entries is always a tough job for the judge,” Ms Gawel said.

“This year’s entries reflected the beauty of grain farming and the hard work of growers across the cropping season to produce food for consumers in Australia and around the world.”

This year, a significant number of high-quality entries were submitted from across the country.

Photographs sent in by grain farming families working in NSW, Queensland and Victoria took out the first, second and third prizes.

The top 12 photos will be featured in the 2024 GrainGrowers Calendar, and each member household will receive a copy.

Winners included:

  • First: Annabel O’Dea (Moama, NSW) — ‘Harvesting canola during golden hour’.
  • Second: Alisha Campbell (Toobeah, Queensland) — ‘Done for the day’.
  • Third: Tegan Buckley (Nangiloc, Victoria) — ‘Mallee Farmer’.
