Four projects from Deniliquin and one from Mathoura were submitted for consideration, but all missed out, with all the funding going to the Griffith area.
The local organisations which were hoping to get some money were the Deni Ute Muster for an art mural to display the history of the Muster at the festival site, the Edward River Paws at Play to develop a safe and secure environment where dog lovers can take their dogs to enjoy socialising off the leash, Deniliquin Boat Club for a new Ski School boat and equipment, Deniliquin Masonic Hall to create wheelchair access and upgrade the toilet facilities, and Mathoura Public School for a sun safe shade sail over the school’s outdoor play equipment.
The program said it would offer up to $260,000 to each NSW electorate.
Nearly all the Murray electorate funding went to a skate park in Yenda, which is to receive $200,000, while a catering van for Hanwood Can Assist will be awarded $46,000.
Edward River Paws at Play founder Angelina Huddle said while she was disappointed, she is not giving up on the project.
‘‘The winning projects were in areas with bigger population so while it is disappointing, I was still excited to be ranked fifth in votes,’’ she said.
‘‘We are not going to give up, so I am going to look at other grants and funding and council is behind me the whole way.’’
The successful Albury electorate projects include purchasing a refrigerated delivery van to provide emergency food relief in Albury ($35,000), installing shade sails at the Eastern View Estate Parks in East Albury ($55,088) and upgrading the Holbrook netball courts ($180,000).
Projects in the southern Riverina region missed out.
