The Echuca Moama Shave event is set to return bigger than ever, with organisers seeking volunteers and participants for the annual fundraiser that supports local families affected by cancer.
Committee member Hazel Voss said the event, scheduled for Sunday, June 22 at the Echuca Hotel, would feature expanded activities and space.
“We are looking to be able to accommodate a lot more people, because we are going to open up the car park at the Echuca Hotel,” she said.
“We have some pretty cool volunteers shaving, chopping and dying their hair crazy colours.
“To make our event even bigger and better than the last couple of years, we are trying to make it a bit more family inclusive, so we will have face painting, crazy hair stores and stuff for little kids.”
The event has raised over $70,000 in previous years, with the funds directly supporting families affected by cancer.
“We help them out with things they can’t get other support for,” Hazel said.
“Things like transport, accommodation, food, and even money towards treatment, it depends on the person’s situation.”
Recipients are identified through suggestion boxes at the event and direct messages to organisers.
“Then we have a conversation with people to see how much they roughly need,” Hazel said.
Currently, about 10 people have registered to donate their hair, and the committee is happy for more volunteers who would either like to help out fundraising, on the day or to get their hair shaved, cut or coloured.

Echuca Moama Shave is on Sunday, June 22 at the Echuca Hotel, 569 High St, Echuca from 11am.
