Sacred Heart Tocumwal is saying goodbye to one of its most experienced and loved staff members, with Therese Macdermid retiring from next week.
Mrs Macdermid became the senior school administrator in 2003, after having spent two years upskilling to take on the role.
She said in the last 16 years, each day has been as special as the first but filled with different experiences.
“From day one I have not experienced the same day twice,” she said.
“I do have weekly/monthly routines, but on the whole each day is a new adventure.
“The school environment is ever changing.
“The one constant is the kids. To see them grow from shy five year olds to develop and blossom into confident Year 6, 12 year olds is nothing short of amazing.
“I'm sure I have been witness to many miracles, during my time at Sacred Heart.
“To see the students faces light up when they experience light bulb moments or listen to them share an experience or perhaps a story they may have composed has been very special.”
Principal Pat Boake said Mrs Macdermid has been a valued staff member and integral part of the students’ learning.
“She has generously educated herself in all aspects of technology to keep up with office requirements,” he said.
“Above this though, Therese is a thoughtful, loyal person who has added to staff life by recognising individuals and producing wonderful cooking and kindness to celebrate occasions.
“She is very popular with the students who will miss her gentle manner and soothing words. The parents respect her and value her even temper and reliability.
“I know she will never be replaced, and will be remembered fondly by all at Sacred Heart.”
In retirement Mrs Macdermid plans to see the world and spend more time with the family.
“It's time for me to now spend time at home with my husband. Between casual work engagements we hope to travel and spend time with our children and grandchildren,” she said.
“I have been truly blessed to work in such a supportive environment. To all my fellow work colleagues over the years, thank you for your support and good wishes.”
