The presentation was made at Sunday’s Australia Day celebrations, to his wife Robynne Sneddon.
Mr Sneddon — who is known as one of Jerilderie’s greatest volunteers, advocates and ambassadors — lost his battle with Motor Neurone Disease in April, 2019.
‘‘Ian had a very deep seated belief that here in Jerilderie we lived in the best part of the world. He openly acknowledged there was much to see out there, but there was no place like home,’’ his citation read.
‘‘He championed the importance and the privilege of being able to celebrate Australia Day.
‘‘Ian lived with the belief that while society and its challenges are ever changing, our need to remember how very lucky we are should be celebrated. As in life, nothing is without its challenges, but it is the indomitable Australian spirit and our highly valued sense of community that sustains us.’’
Mr Sneddon supported, encouraged and believed deeply in Jerilderie’s unique Australia Day celebrations.
‘‘He was so very delighted when our community members were acknowledged, and so very thrilled that so many people took the time to observe and acknowledge these valuable contributions,’’ his citation read.
‘‘Ian lived and breathed community – his many hours, days, weeks and years are a true demonstration of this.’’
