Ute burns in Jerilderie driveway

A ute parked in the driveway of a Mahonga St house in Jerilderie has been destroyed by fire.The owner was woken by the 1996 Holden’s car alarm about 3.30am Friday and looked out the window the see it on fire.While waiting for firefighters, he attempted to douse the flames with a garden hose.Jerilderie Fire + Rescue NSW firefighters initially used foam to bring the fire under control, and then water to have the fire contained by 4am.Brigade Captain John Crittenden said the car was parked quite close to the house.He said while firefighters succeeded in keeping the flames from spreading to the house, there was some paint damage to the wall closest the car.Police are investigating the cause of the blaze.
