American Jordan Gumberg, who only rescued his European tour card with an amazing hole-out eagle on the last hole at the Genesis Championship in South Korea last October, has continued his fairytale resurgence by winning the Hainan Classic in China.
Gumberg achieved more Asian success on Sunday at Mission Hills by holding off playing partner Jorge Campillo on the final hole, making a good up-and-down on the 18th to finish at 19 under par, one stroke ahead of the Spaniard.
"Jorge played great all day, it was a battle the entire way," the 30-year-old Gumberg said after annexing his second European tour title.
"It feels unbelievable, this is a dream-come-true week.
"After the finish of last year, to be standing on the podium again and holding a trophy is unreal, it's incredible."
China's 17-year-old rising star Yanhan Zhou finished 15 under to delight the home crowds as he shared third place with England's Marcus Armitage and Adrian Otaegui, of the United Arab Emirates.
The leading Australian was Ryan Peake, who ended up tied for 31st at six under after his final-round 72.
The 33-year-old Peake finished a shot clear of fellow Aussie David Micheluzzi, who shot a 73 for joint-34th, while Jason Scrivener was tied for 55th on two under following a 74.
