GVL Data | Interesting stats behind Rochy’s fourth quarter

While the scoreboard makes for tough viewing, the stats interestingly suggest Rochester matched it in many other areas despite being outscored.

The disposal count went the way of the Magpies in the fourth quarter, although only just, with Rochester seven touches behind (109 to 102).

The same can be said about clearances, with Euroa notching one more than the Tigers (11-10), while uncontested marks were won by the same margin (Euroa 30, Rochester 29).

Rochester was on top in the contested ball stat (+8), laid more effective tackles (12-11), had three additional pressure acts and also edged Euroa out in rebound 50s (10-8).

The major difference came in the number of turnovers and the number of inside-50 entries.

Euroa recorded 16 turnovers to Rochester’s 22 and made the Tigers pay, scoring 3.4 (22) from turnovers in the final quarter alone.

Additionally, the Magpies entered the forward arc 17 times to Rochester’s nine, scoring from 76 per cent of those entries.

While it may be all doom and gloom when looking at scores alone, the stats suggest Rochester’s final quarter meltdown wasn’t actually that bad.
