Reckless Choice on Magic Millions path

By AAP Newswire

A big drop in weight gives consistent Reckless Choice a chance to confirm his Magic Millions credentials at Eagle Farm.

Reckless Choice faces his stiffest test to date in Saturday's $105,000 Makers Mark Open (1800m) at Eagle Farm.

The gelding has won five of his seven starts at 1600m but has been tried at 1800m only once before when third in a Gold Coast maiden early in his career.

Trainer Steve O'Dea has always had a high opinion of Reckless Choice who has won six of his 20 starts.

"I have been keen to get him out in distance so we can test him as a possible Magic Millions Trophy horse in January," he said.

"This race looks a good way to start."

Reckless Choice will be helped by apprentice Stephanie Thornton's 2kg claim which means he will carry only 52kg.

It is a drop of 7.5kg on the 59.5 kg he had when a last-tart winner at Eagle Farm two weeks ago.

Reckless Choice, who has never carried less than 54kg in a race, is also aided by drawing barrier two at the notoriously tricky 1800m start.

O'Dea feels Reckless Choice will need to build his rating to make the Magic Millions Trophy field which usually attracts many southern trained stayers.

The gelding is a Proven Thoroughbreds horse and the syndicate has been having a great run with O'Dea this season.

The syndicate paid $120,000 for Reckless Choice at the 2016 Magic Millions Sales and O'Dea is hoping that will become a bargain buy.
