To be perched high at the back of the Lake Course’s Gold Nine holes, the new villa will overlook the Par 4 16th green, 17th Par 4 tee-stand, Par 3, 14th hole and Par 5, 13th green. It will also overlook the croquet green, the large swimming pool and bowling greens.

On site prepatory work on the villas began on Monday, May 1. Setting up the site and starting the site cut commenced the big project, in readiness for the plumbers who worked on Monday and Tuesday this week.
Builder Jack Riches of Riches Homes & Improvements Mulwala is undertaking the project which is his seventh big accommodation project at the golf club resort.

This will be the third, three-bedroom two villa blocks, all having six bedrooms and six bathrooms totalling 12 rooms, 12 King Beds or 24 King Singles and 12 bathrooms, all built by Mr Riches.

Overall, after this final accommodation upgrade of cabin replacement the resort will have a total of 60 accommodation units, made up of 42 x one-bedroom suites, 8 x two bedroom apartments and 10 x three bedroom villas, all with King size split bedding making it a total of 176 beds availability.
Mr Riches has built four bigger blocks, referred to as ‘brothers’ due to their similarity. One is three-storey close to the swimming pool and three are two-storey, all of which are sought after by holidaymakers.
Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort is the only golf club along the Murray River to have three-bedroom accommodation units.
What a ‘shot’! The spectacular view from the Par 5, 13th green, with water and Par3, 14th green and the relatively new Par 4 15th tee-stand to the fairway and greenside-bunkered hole.
In 2007, two three-bedroom three-bathroom units known as ‘Boronia Villas’ were constructed in a block along the entrance to what is Australia’s largest public access golf course. The 45 holes comprise two championship golf courses – the Lake Course and the Murray Course – and an Executive Nine.
In 2010, two three-bedroom three-bathroom units were built behind the green of the challenging Par 5, 13th hole.
The latest building is to be constructed where the last five accommodation cabins were located.
The last five of the 20 cabins (totalling 40 rooms each with three beds) were removed two weeks ago. One of the five cabins was donated to Goorambat Veterans’ Retreat for the benefit of war veterans seeking urgent temporary accommodation. All other 19 cabins were sold to holiday parks.
On-course accommodation first appeared in 1978 under the presidency of Mr Bill Brear. Mobile Homes Pty Ltd provided four buildings each containing two units. The first of the holiday units began operation in January and proved so successful a further six were added, eventually building up to the final total of 20.
Included in the magnificent view from the site of the new three-bedroom villa units are the bowling greens, large swimming pool, the croquet green and the golf course. Pictured are Jack Riches of Riches Homes & Improvements with Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort CEO Peter Savy who describe the view as “exceptional” and “spectacular” respectively.
“The cabins served us well but became our least requested accommodation,” club CEO Peter Savy said.
“The three-bedroom units are our most sought-after accommodation. The new accommodation will increase our occupancy by 11 per cent and we expect to have the total cost paid back around seven years.”
Except for the first accommodation, round roof block in between the swimming pool and bowling greens built in 1994, all six completed accommodation blocks have been built by Riches Homes & Improvements who have also undertaken extensions both ends to the clubhouse with the Willow Room for functions and the two-storey gymnasium.
Mr Riches is proud of all the projects at the golf club resort; perhaps a little prouder of this latest project, the 35m long x 11m wide accommodation block which will have a 9m distance at both ends to the next blocks he built.
“I’m pleased and proud to have had the opportunity to do all the projects I have at the golf club,” he told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“This is going to finish up the whole project – the whole complex. The view of so much of the golf course and other features for holidaymakers from this accommodation will be exceptional.”
The three-bedroom villas are designed to meet the target groups of couples traveling together, families with older children and corporate groups. The communal living space is well suited to groups whilst the ensuites for each bedroom provide personal privacy.
The two new blocks of villas contain three bedrooms featuring king-sized beds (or two singles) and all with ensuites. There is a full kitchen including dishwasher, large open plan living and meals area. Laundry facilities are provided within the villas and each has its own courtyard with barbecue. Designated car spaces are also provided.
Guests in the villas and other YarraGolf accommodation also have complimentary access to the solar heated swimming pool and the tennis court. Other resort facilities include three golf courses, lawn bowls, croquet, 60 seat luxury movie theatre, gymnasium and clubhouse with bar and bistro dining.
Mr Savy described the outlook for holidaymakers as “a panorama view”. “It is just spectacular,” he said.
“It will be so inviting to stay and play as per our golf packages. It’s rather unique to have something like this along the Murray River.”
Regarding employment on the project, Mr Savy said the club likes to support local trades and that Mr Riches’s performance with all the club’s projects has been outstanding.
The golf club board has established the direction of the club through its vision statement.
The vision statement is:
“To be the leading provider of recreational facilities for its members and visitors, along the River Murray.”
The club’s latest project will add another unique stay and play package for golfers, in compliance with its vision statement.
