It will be the 160th anniversary of worship on the site of St Andrews. It will be the 40th anniversary of laying the foundation stone for the existing church building.
And it will be the 33rd anniversary of the dedication of the rectory.
A plaque commemorating the 160th anniversary will be blessed by The Right Rev’d Donald Kirk, Bishop of the Riverina who will be officiating the big occasion, assisted in the overall celebratory service by Rev’d Jeni Bedding of St Andrew’s by the Lake Anglican Church.
Rev’d Jeni, along with churchwardens and parish councillors invite all past and present parishioners – anyone who has had anything to do with the church – to the celebratory service.
The above plaque commemorated 130 years of worship at Mulwala in the Church of England/Anglican Church. It was blessed by Bishop Bruce Clark, Bishop of Riverina on October 3, 1993.
“We are hoping as many people as possible come along,” Rev’d Jeni said.
“We are organising a boulder from Kyabram, a plaque from Border Trophies Yarrawonga, a parish clergy board is being made by KMA Signs and we will have two pavilions of tables and chairs, and printer book-marks.”
Retired bricklayer Kurt Bleckwehl recalled how he the late Hugh Fisher laid the bricks for the rectory 33 years ago – receiving plenty of cups of tea and cake from the church ladies and how Robert (Possum) Purtle undertook the electrical work.
Past warden for many years, Glenda Brooker recalled how Minister John Campbell back in 1958 started her idea of building units on vacant land which became available next door to the church, the four units being known as The St Andrews Close.
“Bricky McDuff has been a parish councillor, as were the late Stan Martin, Snow Martin and Joan Doyle just to name few,” parish councillor Glenda said.
Committee members for the 160th anniversary are Rev’d Jeni, Glenda Brooker and Norma Toms. There will be a lot more recollections on Sunday, October 8 and memorabilia will be on display.
“People are welcome to contribute to the memorabilia,” Rev’d Jeni said. “We look forward to you joining us for this auspicious occasion.
