After numerous months of training at school and in the gym, the group of twelve students and two teachers were bursting with excitement of their upcoming nine-day hike which will see them provided with high level practice and knowledge in team building that links to core community priorities.
The 2019 Yarrawonga College P-12 Kokoda Track Leadership Team consists of Hayley Bigger, Flynn Fletcher, Charlie Hargraves, Chloe Forge, Lauren Heffer, Chelsea Kirchin, Heidi Magro, Tanner Nyholm, Joel O’Dwyer, Zali Peters, Dylan Sidebottom, Kane Stewart and teachers Cameron Scott and Fluer Rhodes.
As well as excitement, nerves were also beginning to creep in the week before, with student’s triple checking their checklists making sure all their essentials including worn in boots and sleeping bags were packed.
The program is proudly sponsored by ClubMulwala as the major sponsor of the biennial trek, and is also supported by many organisations, community groups and individuals as an opportunity for students to engage in an amazing and life-changing event.
Students selected have to go through a demanding selection process to create an opportunity for students to develop into ANZAC Ambassadors – providing high level speaking and ambassador duties that represent the community in the ANZAC tradition and to model the College’s values at all times.
The students and teachers also fundraise in the year leading up the track and each is supported by individual sponsors.
