Moira Shire Mayor Libro Mustica said the event will bring a wide range of organisations and agencies together in the one location.
“Our local farmers are hurting from a combination of drought, higher input costs and market uncertainty,” Mayor Mustica said.
“For every job on-farm in Moira there is at least another four off-farm in processing, transport even finance, science and agronomy so the impact is amplified through local business and the community.
“It’s a time when business, community, government and council can come together to provide a helping hand.”
The event will provide a starting point for exploring what assistance may be available including:
• Accessing financial and household assistance,
• Temporary employment opportunities off-farm and outside the agriculture sector,
• Taking a new direction for your farm, your business or your future career, and
• Accessing farm, business and financial planning, as well as health and wellbeing support.
After tomorrow’s event, council staff will be onsite in Numurkah for one-on-one conversations with anyone who would like further information or assistance.
Mayor Mustica said he is confident agriculture will continue to drive Moira’s economy into the future.
“Our soils, climate and reliable water resources are the foundations,” Mayor Mustica said.
“Our willingness to try new ideas, to adapt and to innovate on and off-farm are our competitive edge. And from past experience we know the worst years have triggered some of the greatest innovations and changes in how and what we farm.
“Knowing where and how to access the right support will strengthen our local agribusinesses and the families and employees that rely on them.”
