Being just two weeks after the Agricultural Show many more roses, bulbous and other flowers were available for display either individually or in mixed bowls.
Alan Coatsworth from Wangaratta scooped the pool with his winning roses taking out the Alice Parish Memorial Trophy (6 exhibition roses singly displayed), then the Max and Norma Lukies Trophy for Best Rose in Show and also the Best Rose Exhibit of Show being the President’s Trophy.
The high quality of floral art produced the girls would challenge entries anywhere. Many hours were spent by Lou Brear on her entry in the Race Day’s Class 2 Open floral art section with hundreds of Lamb’s Ears leaves covering a dressmaker’s body with succulent sash together with matching handbag and hat. A world class arrangement was also awarded the Elsie Jones Memorial Trophy for Best Exhibit in the Open Floral Art Open section.
The winner of the Ivy Mackenzie Memorial Trophy for Intermediate Floral Art section classes 4-5 was Sandra Buckles.
The Children’s Section entries in floral art were extremely good with Maddelyn Fletcher winning the Best Exhibit for classes 6-11 being awarded the Brian Payne Trophy which means a small engraved shield will be displayed on the trophy.
Lou Brear must have a wonderful garden to also win the Mavis Churchill Memorial Trophy for Best Exhibit in Cut Flowers.
The Best Plant Exhibit for the Tony Farey Shield was won by Irene Duncan with Adele Church winning the Garden Produce Eileen Currie Shield.
Sandra Buckles won the Craft Best Exhibit with ‘Six items of one person’s work’.
The Yarrawonga Garden Club Members’ Only perpetual trophy for ‘A Collection of 6 items from the Schedule (Excluding Floral Art)’ was won by Betty Seymour who also won second prize in the raffle with S Rogers the winner.
The Gwen Hagger Trophy for Best Exhibit in the whole show (excluding floral art) was won by Lou Brear for her display of Mixed Cut Flowers.
