A number of people from each program enjoyed the afternoon with MHA CEO Michael Hogan conveying the gratitude of MHA Care to the people who put up their hand to help those in need day in and day out.
“As the year comes to a close, we can reflect on the significance of the work performed by the volunteers,” Mr Hogan said.
“The significance of the Meals on Wheels program, what we have achieved this year and the impact you have made as a volunteer in your local community is astounding.
“As a team of 372 volunteers we have delivered a staggering 21,090 main meals to 331 customers in Cobram, Nathalia, Numurkah and Yarrawonga.
“In Yarrawonga over the last 12 months 128 volunteers delivered 6,535 main meals to 92 customers.
“Foodshare has had another successful year. 45 volunteers support this program.
“Foodshare’s recent activities have involved a significant sourcing of refrigerated and frozen foods for distribution to individuals and families.
“We have developed a wonderful relationship with Shepparton Foodshare and have almost weekly collected 100’s of kilos of food and meals that have been prepared and distributed by food rescue organisations like Ozharvest and Second Bite.
“These new ranges of foods, combined with a valuable supply of local pumpkins from Kelly Brothers, and fresh bread from Artisan Bakery Cobram, Woolworths Cobram, and the new owners of Yarra Hotbread Yarrawonga Jim and David Brereton, have ensured that recipients of Foodshare’s program are being offered a wide and healthy range of food and meal choices.
“The Opportunity Shop is in its 11th year and 32 volunteers support this program.
“We continue to receive strong community support and profits are channeled back into important community programs such as the Community car, Meals on Wheels, Foodshare and health and community care for people in their homes.
“Lastly our Planned Activity Group is a dedicated team of volunteers who assist in offering client’s social interaction with others in the community and a fun filled day with activities at the centre or often taking clients on outings.
“We Nourish *We Care * We Connect Communities.
“Together these three elements make a very powerful combination.
“You as a volunteer keep people well nourished, intervene when they’re in trouble, enhance their lives, prevent falls and hospital stays and keep people at home for longer.”
