Council will provide skip bins at the Mulwala Waste Facility from Monday, December 23 to the end of January 2020 as an additional service. The facility is located at Barooga Road, Mulwala and access to the skip bins will be available 24 hours a day until the end of January.
Bins located in public parks and gardens will be emptied twice daily over the Christmas and New Year period. The kerbside bin collection dates will be as usual over the Christmas and New Year period with residents reminded to place their bins out for collection.
Information signage will be placed in key parks throughout Mulwala to advise and encourage residents and visitors to dispose of their waste in the skip bins located at the Mulwala Waste Facility.
Federation Council General Manager Adrian Butler said: “For the enjoyment of all visitors and residents, council is requesting that waste is disposed of firstly in your kerbside bin and where required in the skip bins provided at the Mulwala Waste Facility.
“The additional service of providing skip bins at the facility has been organised to manage overflow waste from visitors so it can be collected and disposed of away from spaces that are highly visible and used by our visitors and residents.
“We encourage residents to firstly take advantage of the local Waste Facility and make arrangements where possible to take their own rubbish away.”
Mulwala Progress Association President Robert (Possum) Purtle OAM said the progress association wrote to council following the undesirable situation last year with overflowing skips at Purtle Park, as reported in the Yarrawonga Chronicle in January this year.
“We welcome the additional services to be put on by Federation Council so everyone – particularly visitors – know how tidy and beautiful Mulwala is,” he told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
Council wishes to remind residents and visitors that litter and illegal dumping in parks is prohibited. Penalties apply under the Section 632 Local Government Act 1993.
