“It’s national class. It’s as good as you’d find anywhere in Australia, if not better,” she told people at last Wednesday’s official opening of the final infrastructure works.
“It’s delivery of a $4.3 million development, which includes our grant of $655,676 last year.”
Ms Ley, who is also Federal Member for Farrer, loved being back at Mulwala Business Park where she has officiated three times over the past decade, the other two occasions in connection with the biggest employer Yarrawonga Manufactured Housing’s (YMH) subsequent expansions (currently 35 people), in McCarthy Drive.
“This land will be filled with activities, industry, employment and funding for the region,” she said of the total estate. “I congratulate the shire for giving the economy support.”
Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke and Ms Ley jointly officially opened the Mulwala Industrial Estate development upgrade located alongside Tocumwal Road.
Its location provides easy and accessible transport links to major cities and regional centres along with offering extensive freight and transport services that offer fast and cost effective distribution options.
The upgrade has been made possible by funding from the National Stronger Regions Fund of $655,676 and $3.6 million committed by Federation Council.
“Council is proud to provide 60 high quality blocks with power, sewer and telco services available with land area ranging from 1182m2 to 7761m2.” Mayor Bourke said.
“Federation Council fosters business development and expansion and makes good business sense. With a vibrant economy, excellent transport linkages and accessibility, strong opportunities for growth and exceptional lifestyle, there are endless reasons to consider doing business in this region.
“The Mulwala commercial precinct and Business Park are growing and thriving areas, and both have seen many new businesses established, and others expanding.
“The Mulwala Business Park is currently home to an array of businesses including Yarrawonga Manufactured Housing, building companies, steel fabrications, crematorium, storage sheds, large and small truck depots/transport companies, and cleaning companies which we hope will expand in the coming years.”
The mayor said that council has also been active with other development in Mulwala over the years; recent examples including major upgrades and renewals to the Lonsdale Recreation Reserve, new boat ramp and retaining walls at the Owen Bridges Reserve, new jetty at Digger Loughnan Park, renewals to section of Melbourne Street, and Wemyss Road to the Max Kirwan Ski Park in readiness for the 2020 World Show Ski titles. Pool Avenue alongside Apex Park and the carpark area was also renewed several years ago.
“Federation Council’s business footprint includes small to medium sized enterprises ranging from tourism and hospitality to manufacturing and agriculture,” Mayor Bourke said.
Cr Bourke expressed his appreciation for Ms Ley’s attendance, and fellow councilors Andrew Kennedy and Norm Wales.
“It was also great to have at the opening John and Nathan Tresize from Yarrawonga Manufactured Housing, Brendan and Bill Longley from Longford Civil, and council’s General Manager Adrian Butler, along with several other staff members,” the mayor said.
“On behalf of Federation Council, I would like to thank the generous funding partners, contractors Longford Civil and the project management team at council for managing this project. This has been an amazing community initiative and I look forward to welcoming many new, small and large businesses in the future,” he said.
YMH Managing Director John Tresize congratulates Federation Council on completing the project. “We are certain it will prove to be the catalyst in encouraging more industry and industrial support services to Mulwala,” he said.
“Federation Council and the previous Corowa Shire Council have been proactive ensuring the successful completion of the Mulwala Business Park and Industrial Estate.”
Project Officer assigned by Federation Council to the 32-lot subdivision project, in 2016, Robert Bond, was delighted with the result, saying: “It’s fantastic. It’s finished!”
As MC last Wednesday, Mr Butler said the day represented “the end of quite a long journey”. “It’s a terrific result for the previous Corowa Shire and staff, and the current council and staff.”
