It was hot weather and the numbers were down somewhat but that didn’t stop plenty of riders, including 44 junior barrel riders, competing in the Yarrawonga Rodeo on Friday, December 27 at the Yarrawonga Showgrounds.

“It was an average crowd. The hot weather didn’t help at all,” co-organiser Jan Parker told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“But it was a good night. It was good to see a number of local junior riders in the barrel race, including Shaye Saunders from Tungamah, Eddie and Jack McQualter-Whyte from Lake Rowan and Ella Burns from Bundalong.”
Riders came Queensland, NSW and Victoria to contest the ‘Under The Stars Yarrawonga Professional Rodeo’.
The John Collins Memorial Trophy for Saddle Bronc was won by Cody Angland, the trophy sponsored by the family of John Collins.
Twenty-six riders contested the highly challenging Bull Ride, with just two riders completing the eight seconds requirement.
With a score of 71 points, Bailey Woodard finished first, ahead of second-placed Jake Maher on 68 points.
The Yarrawonga Rodeo is part of the popular Christmas/New Year run of rodeos with points earned by riders qualifying for the all-important National Finals Rodeo later this month.
Jan has been involved in organising the Yarrawonga Rodeo for nine years, with co-organiser this year Brett Ryan.
“Under the Stars is the major sponsor and have committed to continuing the event here which is great,” Jan said.
