The oration is in honour of the late, great Tim Fischer AC, the former Federal member for Farrer, leader of the National Party and Deputy Prime Minister, who kindly allowed The Rotary Club to use his name.
The oration is given by people prominent in their field, to present a topic of interest, with possibly a local or historical leaning. Each year a guest speaker has been asked to talk about his or her life, links to the local community and the impact that this has had.
Former speakers have included the adjunct Professor of Australian History at Canberra University, Dr. Jeffrey Brownrigg, the Hon Tim Fischer himself, Major General Shane Caughey, who grew up in Corowa and spent over 38 years in the Australian Army and the Assistant Commissioner of NSW Police, Michael Corboy APM, who also grew up in Corowa.
This year’s speaker is Australian politician, Ms Cathy McGowan AO, the former independent Federal MP for the Victorian seat of Indi from 2013 to 2109. Ms McGowan will be talking about her life, how she became involved in politics and her time in the nation’s capital.
Tickets for the dinner and oration are $60 per person for a three course meal with drinks at bar prices, and are now available from Marshall Batteries in Corowa by phoning (02) 6033 1689 or 0427 229 783.
