As a prep student, starting school can be a nerve—wracking experience but having somebody right by your side for the big day makes the beginning of your school experience an exciting and joyous one.
And this year, all the prep students the Yarrawonga Chronicle spoke to were joining their older siblings at school, an occurrence of mixed feelings for parents sending their last baby to school.
Several students and their parents have been shopping for their new school uniforms at Judds Yarrawonga expressing their feelings of starting school.
Soon to be prep student Kobi Dickins will be starting school at Tungamah Primary School when school goes back next week, and when asked by the Yarrawonga Chronicle what he was looking forward to, Kobi said he was just excited to start school and see his three older brothers (Nate, Ty and Jameson) and mum Briony at school too.
“I’m excited cause my brothers and mum are there and to play footy, write and read,” Kobi said.
Being from a small district town Kobi will already be friends with a number of his fellow classmates and with mum Briony a teacher’s aide at the school, Kobi already knows his way around, something mum and son are happy about.
Each school in the twin towns is welcoming new students with excitement and apprehension being seen on both sides of the border but the schools are ready to tackle this new group of students.
Yarrawonga College P-12 will see Lexi Clark begin school with them and she is excited for the next challenge.
“I am excited for school and to play on the playground,” Lexi said.
Lexi will also be joined by a number of the friends she made at her time at Country Buddies.
Lewis Hargreaves will also join his two older brothers at school where his mum Kristy also teaches.
“I’m excited for school and to see my brothers and mum at school,” Lewis said.
Lewis also added that he is excited to see his friends and play footy at lunchtime.
For mums and dads it may feel like both a sad and proud time to be sending the baby of the family off to school but a new and exciting journey awaits them.
