“We are looking out for isolated and vulnerable people in our community and you can help too,” a YNH spokesperson said.
“We are promoting a Community Caring Card that you drop in the letterbox of someone, living near you, who has no family support.
“Using this card you can offer the person friendly phone calls or picking up shopping/running errands.
“These cards can be picked up from outside of the YNH building.”
A similar form is also printed on Tim McCurdy’s notice on the front page of this week’s Chronicle.
“We are all in this together and this is a small way you could help someone more vulnerable than yourself,” the YNH spokesperson said.
YNH are still operating, but like so many they have had to modify their services due to COVID-19.
In order to ensure the safety of staff and the community, the doors were closed on Monday, March 30, but YNH staff are still at work for our community.Staff are working from home providing support and information to students and the community at large.All Certificate course will continue to be delivered online in term two. Students will be contacted this week with details. Also watch out for the free online courses coming soon.
“In relation to our Service Australia (Centrelink) Agency, we will not be offering an Agency Service for the immediate future,” the YNH spokesperson said.
“Service Australia has advised that all business can be conducted on-line or over the phone, including the issuing of CRN numbers, MyGov linking codes and identification processes.
“Unfortunately, all of our social connections programs will be postponed until further notice.
“Whilst we cannot meet physically, we strongly encourage everyone to stay socially connected through phone calls and social media.
“YNH’s Information and Referral program is still working to link community members to vital services, including housing, Foodshare and financial relief.
“Please stay safe. Wash your hands, sanitize and stay home. Together we will make sure we get through this.
“We apologise for any inconvenience but hope that this small action will help our community in the long run.”
