A further eight projects were awarded funding totalling $60,900 through the one-off Arts and Culture Grants program.
Mayor Libro Mustica said council grants were a great way to kick start a community initiative, which was particularly important as communities begin to rebuild with the easing of pandemic restrictions.
“We understand these have been tough times for everyone and council grants are just one of many initiatives to aid and benefit communities throughout the shire,” Cr Mustica said.
“These grants help facilitate projects which enrich the whole community and can assist in the development of services, management of facilities, co-ordination of events and promotion of tourism, environmental sustainability and health in the community.
“This latest round of grants will help community groups from Numurkah, Waaia, Nathalia, Katamatite and Yarrawonga for projects ranging from a Parkrun event, a new garden, tiered seating, promoting women’s health, a new pergola, and an event encouraging family-orientated activities.”
Cr Mustica said the one-off Arts and Culture Grants were specifically for the support of local artists, art or cultural organisations to deliver locally relevant arts and culture projects.
“The communities of Katamatite, Katunga, Cobram, Numurkah, Yarrawonga and Baulkamaugh will be seeing and participating in arts and culture projects including murals, artist workshops for children, street art, children’s theatre, cinema improvements, sculptures and mobile hat making,” he said.
“These grants programs aim to support strategic goals identified in the Council Plan as well as supporting community organisations that provide diverse and effective local services, facilities and activities.
“I would like to thank the Goulburn Valley Regional Library Group who provided support to the applicants with the online application process including computer and internet use.”
