Investigators have been told two men were collected from an address in Victoria Parade, East Melbourne about 12.30am.
During the journey it’s alleged one of the men asked the driver to head to another address.
The driver declined and the man assaulted the driver.
The victim stopped his car at the intersection of Toorak Road and Millswyn Street and got out of the vehicle to call police.
The offender then got into the front seat and attempted to drive off. He was unsuccessful in his attempt and both he and his friend ran from the car.
Police were quickly on scene and arrested a 29-year-old man from South Melbourne and the 28-year-old man from Yarrawonga. Both are currently assisting police with their enquires.
Vehicle theft by teenagers
Three Shepparton female teenage offenders, two aged 13 and one 16, have attempted to evade police in a stolen vehicle on South Road, Yarrawonga on Sunday morning, August 2. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle which took off at a fast rate and crashed at the intersection of South Road and Benalla Road where it rolled several times.
Offenders fled the scene and were later located approximately 7km west of Yarrawonga. The occupants of the vehicle were conveyed to Wangaratta Hospital with minor injuries and stayed overnight for observation.
They will be interviewed over this incident which involved serious incidents of theft of a motor car, evading police and conduct of endangering life.
Window smashing
A window of a private premise in Pinniger Street was smashed on the night of Saturday, July 25. Investigations are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Yarrawonga Police.
Registration plate theft
A registration plate was stolen from a trailer at the rear of a business in Belmore Street between July 1 and July 13.
Property damage
Yarrawonga Police are investigating property damage to a private premise in Pinniger Street Yarrawonga that occurred on July 25.
