Now, 17 years later, Fred is president of Lake Mulwala Combined Probus Club, for the fifth time, and is the club’s only life member.
Last week, 59 members came together to celebrate 21 years of fun, companionship and monthly social gatherings.
“Probus is about people who look after people, and that extends beyond the monthly social club,” Fred said.
“It allows for older people across the region to meet and find companionship with each other and give each other help.”
Probus was founded in England by Rotary in 1965 and expanded into Australia in 1976.
There are 110,000 members across more than 1400 clubs in both New Zealand and Australia.
Probus members look forward to events pencilled in the monthly newsletter, with trips to Bonegilla and Lockhart scheduled for later this year.
Membership officer Faye Cook said she has enjoyed the group trips, and range of guest speakers throughout the last 12 years as a club member.
On the first Monday of every month, the Lake Mulwala Combined Probus Club comes together for a coffee, conversation and companionship in the Willow Room at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club.
If you’d like to join the wine and dine groups, guest speakers and a range of fun activities, Lake Mulwala Combined Probus Club is looking for new members.
