It was the biggest and most spectacular annual Lake Mulwala Rod Run event ever seen in Yarrawonga.
Such an eye catcher, fit for a ride in by King Charles, was this stunning red-coloured Cadillac.

“We had 563 hot rods, from all states of Australia. We were thrilled, extremely happy. All went according to plan,” events co-ordinator Mich Greche with Wayne Satori, from Northen Suburbs Street Rods (NSSR) told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“Our cut off year for hot rods is 1975. Our oldest car was a black 1922 T Centre Door owned by Noel Innman of Sunshine. It is one of the fastest old hot rods in the country.”
Every colour hot rod was there and spectacularly presented in such shiny fashion, capturing the admiration of local residents and visitors to town.
These golden oldie machines cruised from roundabout to roundabout in Belmore Street on Saturday for six hours from 4.00pm and were in a magnificent line-up at J C Lowe Oval on Sunday.
Before the Saturday street cruising, the temperature hit 37 degrees. “But it cooled down beautifully for the cruise and we loved it,” Mr Greche said.
“Hundreds of kids got to ride in Richie and Marie’s (Mercierco, from Sydney) 1923 T Bucket Ford at a designated area outside the Terminus Hotel.”
“The kids loved it,” Richie said, “and we loved seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces. The kids were very appreciative.”
Hot rods in Belmore Street Yarrawonga last Saturday were admired by so many spectators.

A total of 130 hot rods cruised to Tungamah on Friday to admire the town including the Tungamah Hotel. A similar number took off to Corowa and Rutherglen on Saturday morning, visiting the Corowa Distillery and various coffee and lolly shops in Rutherglen. The Bundalong Tavern was another popular destination for many hot rod owners.
“The street parade was enormous, so well supported by locals,” Mr Greche said.
“To see so many come down to the footy oval on Sunday was simply fantastic. Shaun Driscoll from the holiday park has been great too, supporting our event.”
Perhaps the most eye-catching vehicle at J C Lowe Oval was the red-coloured Cadillac. “It’s just fabulous. You’d think King Charles would be travelling in it!” the event co-ordinator said.
“We are proud of what we’ve achieved and been allowed to do by the Moira Shire and Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism and Business. Without them, we couldn’t have held this event. Yarrawonga Police were very supportive.
“But thanks must go to all our sponsors who were just wonderful. The support of the Yarrawonga Mulwala community was huge and appreciated. Last year we had 504 hot rods. We look forward to being back in Yarrawonga next year and I reckon our event will even get bigger, to a limit of 600.”
Music group ‘Itchy Fingers’ had plenty of keen dancers on the grass floor, particularly line dancers. Stalls and boat displays hugged the football oval’s boundary line.

Sam Gent from Greenacres Melbourne, who could not attend last weekend, is now in the driver’s seat as Northern Suburbs Street Rods (NSSR) President, having taken over the wheel from Michael Grech who stepped down after five years.
