On Sunday, October 26, Doug Kelley went home to be with Jesus after a protracted battle with cancer.
Before retiring into the Finley township, in their new home, he had been a local dairy farmer for many years.
As a relatively young man, Doug fought hard to stay in this world.
He left behind a loving wife, two married daughters and four grandchildren.
Doug, however, never let the battle he faced overwhelm him. His faith was firmly anchored in Jesus, his Lord.
Doug also understood that death has lost its sting.
His attitude in the battle was shaped by the knowing that he did not face death each day, but instead he faced the transition to a new life with Christ.
This wonderful knowledge helped him to face each day with confidence and courage.
Doug always had a smile on his face, continued to crack jokes and exuded an inner peace that was evident to everyone that knew him.
The loss to his family and friends is profound, however, their loss is balanced by the knowledge that Doug is now free from the daily struggle he faced and is at peace in heaven.
