AI included in new cyber security policy from Greater Shepparton City Council

In Victoria, Murrindindi Shire Council and Latrobe City Council have both adopted specific AI policies that cover the implementation of AI tools, managing potential bias and protecting data security.

The policy from Greater Shepparton City Council states that AI tools must be approved and meet security requirements.

Mayor Shane Sali said artificial intelligence was a rapidly evolving space and acknowledged that there may need to be a dedicated policy in the future.

While the policy only covers security and not usage guidelines, council has confirmed that there are internal measures in place to support safe usage.
