A large crowd was in attendance and an abundance of food was shared, with a great number of platters also being delivered to businesses around town early last Thursday morning.
This year the money from door ticket sales ($2000) will be donated to Jay’s Longest Melanoma March, a 2,000km walk from Adelaide to Sydney over 50 days, which wrapped up in Sydney on Sunday, raising money and awareness for the Melanoma Institute Australia.
Friends in Common (FIC) President Helen Glasheen said the event was a marvellous success once again and thanked many organisations and people in town for their support.
“We had a lot of food here provided by members of the community and a lot was sold which is absolutely fantastic,” Ms Glasheen said.
“It is our major fundraiser for Friends in Common so it is great to see so many people get involved and support the day.
“We are very grateful for the generous support we receive every year.
“Special thanks to Mulwala Water Ski Club CEO Peter Duncan and his staff who give so generously of their time and venue to make this such a successful event.
“We would like to say a big thank you to the staff and students of Sacred Heart College who help each year with the spinning wheel tickets.
“Thank you to everybody that assists and makes this day the successful fundraiser that it is.
“By your support it enables Friends in Common to continue our work in supporting people in our community who are in active treatment for cancer.
“Friends in Common use the funds we raise to provide fuel vouchers, subsidize accommodation and help local people to meet some of the significant aspects of travelling for treatment, so we thank the community in their assistance with this.”
Mulwala WaterSki Club CEO Peter Duncan said the Ski Club were more than happy to assist with the running of the Cuppa for Cancer event and help the day once again be a resounding success.
“This years Friends In Common Cuppa for Cancer saw an excellent crowd who were very generous, with more money raised this year than last year,” Mr Duncan said.
“The local businesses in Yarrawonga and Mulwala were also very generous with donating prizes and vouchers for the spinning wheel tables. Businesses and individuals donated food, Sacred Heart students and teachers did an excellent job selling the spinning wheel tickets, as they do every year.
“There is so many people who donate or give their time because they know of the amazing work Friends In Common do in our community.”
Friends in Common member Leon Porter said a fantastic amount was raised at the Cuppa for Cancer event alone with FIC hoping for the event to be even bigger and better next year.
“The final figure raised from our whole campaign is a tad over $13,000 with last Thursday alone raising $7,500,” Ms Porter said.
“The rest of the money came from our raffle prior to the day and the deliveries to businesses on Thursday morning.
“We enjoy doing what we do to assist those locals in need of some extra help during some of their darkest times and we appreciate the support we receive from the community to be able to do that.”
Raffle winners on the day were: $200 petrol vouchers - Chris Gardner, refurbished ladies bike- Joan Ramsdale, two dressed dolls - Rita Bennett.
