Australia Day ceremonies

People love Australia Day for various reasons and for these two Melbourne families, it’s spending and celebrating the national holiday in Yarrawonga Mulwala every year. A number of ceremonies will be held in Yarrawonga and the region today to commemorate several local residents who go above and beyond for their community.

Yarrawonga and Tungamah will be hosting their own ceremonies with the Federation Council award ceremony to be held in Corowa.

The program for Yarrawonga’s Australia Day awards:

  • 7.15am – 8.30am Free cooked breakfast provided by the Rotary Club of Yarrawonga Mulwala.
  • 7am – 8.45am Entertainment by Ray Macartney. Ray will be singing popular songs with an Aussie theme.
  • 8.45am Flag raising ceremony followed by the singing of the national anthem.
  • 8.55am Welcome by the President of the Rotary Club of Yarrawonga – Mulwala, Joe Cilia.
  • 9am Guest speaker Erin Purtle.
  • 9.10am Presentation of Australia Day awards.
  • 9.25am Comments from Moira Shire Councilor.
  • 9.30am Ceremony concludes to allow all present to be involved in other activities organised in the area for this special day.

Current covid guidelines will apply at all events. Fully vaccinated only. Remember a mask, sanitise hands and practise social distancing.

Please bring along chairs if you have any, as only a limited number of chairs will be available on site.

Tungamah

Tungamah’s ceremony will take place from 8am with a traditional Lions club breakfast, alongside some entertainment.

Presentations will follow the breakfast. Please bring your own seating as it will be all outdoors. Covid Marshalls will view vaccination certificates.

There will be limited seating available.

Only fully vaccinated people will be admitted.

Federation Council

The celebrations for the Federation Council will begin at 9am in Bangerang Park Corowa however, in an effort to reduce crowd numbers to best manage Covid risks, the celebration has been changed to invite only and will be live streamed to the broader community.
