A change in venue from Alice Springs to Yarrawonga means there are 253 A-shaped folding campervans and about 320 people in town as part of the 24th annual visit of the A’van Club of Australia.
Club members will enjoy Yarrawonga Mulwala for the second time as part of their annual get together this time from last Friday, May 5 to Monday, May 15.
“With the situation in Alice Springs we decided we couldn’t go there and we chose Yarrawonga,” the club’s 2022-appointed president and immediate past secretary Jan Loveday told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“We chose Yarrawonga because we know it. We rang Michelle (Driscoll) at the Yarrawonga Holiday Park and asked if there were about 200 sites available and she said yes! And we love ClubMulwala.”
ClubMulwala is the venue for A’van’s Gala Dinner, AGM and the playing of bowls – as per 2019 when A’van stayed in Yarrawonga and loved their stay.
The A’van Club of Australia has 1040 members and love their A’vans and club. “They’re easy to tow, they’re easy to repair and members make for good company,” Jan reasoned.
Yarrawonga Mulwala Visitor Information Centre Executive Officer Noel Wright said it was great the club reached out to the centre.
“After deciding not to go to Alice Springs they contacted us (on February 13) because they thought if anyone can pull this off Yarrawonga Mulwala can,” Mr Wright said.
“It’s fantastic they chose our twin towns. It will make a bit of difference to our economy at this time of year.”
For the two-week period, it is estimated about $2,000 per campervan will be expended in the Yarrawonga Mulwala community.
