On one of the coldest days this season for footy, it didn’t take long for the boys to warm up on Deni’s oversized field.
The Senior Bears got off to a fantastic start as Johnsey slotted three majors in the first quarter, and put the team in front by two goals at quarter time.
The second quarter proved to be an even contest, with Deni making the most of the wind’s advantage.
It was great to see all players contributing, making the game flow much better overall.
Connor on the back flank, was impressive with his speed and ability to intercept the ball.
It was wonderful to see the Seniors play a solid four quarters this week.
Now sitting in the top four, Tungamah just need to keep putting in the hard work on the training track to maintain our momentum.
Reserves
Tungamah 0.4 - 4 def by Deni Rovers 10.8 - 68
The drive to Deni to play in the cold weather wasn’t ideal for majority of the Tungamah Reserves, who had taken a heavily depleted list into Saturdays game.
The lunchtime legends struggled to get into the game.
Dimmy was sent out to run the forward line, a big ask for a bloke who shouldn’t be left in charge of running a bath.
While the vision had improved, there isn’t much he could do as he watched the ball repeatedly head in the other direction.
The Reserves put up a decent showing for the first half, led by Rangi and Nong.
With more snapped strings than a Who concert, at the start of the second quarter rotations were down to one.
Players were struggling to cover the area of a postage stamp which was not ideal on the big ground.
Even Luke Razor Buerkner’s deliberate out of bounds, which is believed to be the first ever paid in PDFNL reserves grade football, couldn’t ease the pressure off the backs.
General Grambi lead his backline brigade into battle again, he missed a beat all year this kid and is looking rock solid down back.
Best: T. Hayes, D. Clarke, N. Gamble, J. Kelly, M. Bramich.
Thirds
Tungamah 14.1 - 85 def Deni Rovers 5.6 - 36
Both teams came out all guns blazing as the match kicked off.
The Thirds secured a quick first goal and set the scene for what was to come.
The team showed immense pressure all over the field, their determination evident.
Some awesome teamwork resulted in four goals for the Thirds by the end of the first quarter.
Some fierce defensive pressure and fantastic accuracy in front of the sticks continued throughout the game and proved too strong for Deni this week.
The thirds efforts made for a convincing win for the Bears, Great work Thirds.

Goals: J. Bamford 4, B. Grant 3, B. Doyle 3, Z. Bramich 2, J. Walker, B. Krywyn.
Fourths
Tunagamah 3.4 - 22 def by Deni Rovers 3.5 - 23
The Fourths had taken the long journey to Deni to face them on their oversized ground on a rather fresh morning.
Unfortunately, the start wasn’t the best, as it seemed like they needed a few more hours in bed to fully wake up.
However, by halftime the Fourths found their rhythm and kicked into gear.
Facing a two-goal deficit going into the last quarter, the Fourths demonstrated their never-give-up attitude, and fought back hard.
The side kicked three goals and put themselves in front with only a couple of minutes to go.
In a dramatic turn of events, Deni managed to score one more goal in the final minutes, winning by just one point.
It was another tough game, but the boys fought until the end, showcasing their resilience.
As the Fourths look ahead, a couple more challenging games await.
Hopefully, the Fourths can focus on improving our starts to make things easier moving forward.
Great effort, team.
Let’s keep pushing.
Awards: Crusty Loaf - Noah Lawless, Tungamah Shop - Darcy Cummins, Doyle's Socks - Pax Poll, Intersport Wingates - Jacob Morrit.
Goals: T. Lawrence 2, P. Poll.
Fifths
No Score.
Tungamah’s little superstars were lucky to have a late start due to a second oval.
With the big trek to Deni, the Fifths were bit light on for numbers, but with help from the rovers team, Tungamah’s cubs played a great game on a full length oval with plenty of fun all day.
Awards: Intersport Wingates - Roly Cummins, Crusty Loaf - Phoenix Liddelow, Tungamah Shop - Curtis Green, TFNC Canteen - Koopah Ayton.
Netball
A Grade
Tungamah 18 def by Deni Rovers 41
A very cold day greeted the Bears as Tungamah arrived to take on the undefeated Deni Rovers.
Despite struggling to convert opportunities in the first half, A Grade’s intensity and effort across the court never wavered.
The third quarter proved just how competitive A Grade can be, with both sides fighting for every possession and scoring eight goals each.
A real testament to Tungamah’s game play and determination.
While the final margin of 23 points didn’t reflect the quality of A Grades play, the sides defensive pressure held the Rovers to their lowest score of the season.
Awards: Players' Player - Amy Perry, Ricky D’s - Olivia Ford, One Zach - Keely Gissing.
B Grade
Tungamah 35 def by Deni Rovers 42
It was a battle of the top two as Tungamah and Deni Rovers clashed in a high-quality contest.
Although B Grade’s undefeated streak came to an end, the sides spirit certainly did not.
Deni slowly edged ahead throughout the match, capitalising on some uncharacteristic errors under pressure.
The scoreboard does not tell the full story.
B Grade fought hard from the first whistle to the last, displaying grit, determination, and heart.
Losses sting, but they also teach valuable lessons.
This result has not rattled B Grade’s strong connection, passion, or hunger.
If anything, it’s fuelled the fire.
B Grade will regroup, reflect, and continue to push forward, stronger than ever.
The defence was outstanding on the day, with Brodie, Eliza, and Sophie earning match awards. The trio’s relentless pressure, smart tactics, and constant turnovers forced Deni to work overtime for every goal.
Awards: Players Mug- Cpt. Brodie, Purtles – Eliza, Free as a Bird – Sophie.
C Grade
Tungamah 13 def by Deni Rovers 41
They say things come in threes, and after three solid wins on the trot, C Grade figured it was time to share the love… or at least the scoreboard.
The defensive dream team of Bridie and Jorja were back on the job, as overworked security guards at a Saturday night pub crawl.
Deni’s goalers hardly missed a trick and kept Tungamah’s girls working flat-out.
Bridie, fired up and fierce, gave off serious "door seccy" energy, the kind you’d spot outside the club before you’d even finished your second pre-drink and already knew you weren’t getting in.
Dim Sim was back and steaming up the court like a microwave meal on high.
Like a dog with a bone, she refused to let a single loose ball go unclaimed.
If Deni dropped it, Dim was on it faster than you could say “turnover.”
Meanwhile, Chloe, proudly wore the battle scars of last week and was thrown into the unfamiliar terrain of wing attack.
She kept a respectful distance from the ring, knowing full well she’d need a passport, three forms of ID and a visa to cross that border.
Rahni was cool, calm, and completely chaotic in the best way, and played another blinder in centre.
Fresh out of holiday mode, Bern jogged past the lunchtime legends while en route to the court.
Remi and Illa had their hands full in the ring, battling not just Deni’s defenders but the actual wind gods themselves.
To cap it all off, late in the third quarter, Illa performed a textbook tuck and roll that had the Australian gymnastics team scrambling for her player profile.
LA 2028? Don’t rule it out.
Next week, we head back to the Bear Pit to face the Saints, hoping for nothing less than a Saint-sational day.
Awards: Miss Dolly – Jorja, Jaycees – Illa, TFNC sock award – Dim, Players player – Bridie.
C Reserve
Tungamah 18 def by Deni Rovers 26
C Reserves made the big drive to Memorial Park for a tough match-up against the Deni Rovers.
Amy went down in the first quarter, which was not part of the plan.
The defence had done a top job to create turnovers.
C Reserves made mistakes in attack, which stopped fluent conversions.
Rovers just didn’t let Tungamah play their game.
C Reserves will learn and improve on their error rate.
A huge thanks to Rovers for the assistance to get Amy off the court, and for checking up on her after the game.
Awards: Jaycees - Ally Cooper, Intersport Wingates - Jen Buerckner, Players Mug - Sophie Lidgerwood.
Under 17s
Tungamah 21 def by Deni Rovers 67
It was always going to be a tough against top of the ladder Deni.
Player rotations throughout the game helped to keep energy levels up and adapt to the much cooler winter conditions.
Lots of learnings to take away, the Under 17s will regroup and bounce back.
Shoutout to Keira, Torah and Billie for their support on the day.
Awards: Crusty Loaf – Tayla, Tunga Shop - Mads K, Murray Central Bank – Chelsea, Talk Award - Chelsea & Tayla.
Under 15s
Tungamah 34 def by Deni Rovers 41
The Under 15s started off strong and showcased a solid defence.
The midcourt worked hard to move the ball effectively which earned a three-goal lead at quarter time.
As the game progressed, Deni found their rhythm and began to take control.
Despite Tungamah’s efforts and numerous turnovers created, the Under 15s were unable to convert opportunities and regain the lead.
A tough contest overall, with plenty of positives to take away.
The Under 15s will focus on capitalising on key moments as they prepare for the next round.
Awards: Bamford Builders – Billie, Tungamah Shop – Torah, Crusty Loaf – Asha, Talk award - Claire.
Under 13s
Tungamah 6 def Deni Rovers 14
The Under 13s hit the road to take on Deniliquin, one of the undefeated sides in the competition.
The Under 13s side knew it would be a tough challenge and showed great determination right from the first whistle.
Against a much taller and physically stronger team, the Under 13s had to adjust their usual style of play.
This resulted in a few players playing in positions new to them as they stepped up with versatility and commitment.
Despite the scoreboard not going Tungamah’s way, the Under 13s never dropped their heads and continued to work hard across the court.
While Tungamah didn't come away with the win, the match gave the Under 13s some great learning opportunities and areas to focus on in the coming weeks.
Awards: Attwood Builders – Annabelle, Tungamah Shop – Tayla, Crusty Loaf – Charlotte.
Under 11s
No score.
With a few girls out and battling some illness, the Under 11’s rocked up to Deni with a team of eight, thanks to Under 9 Layla stepping up.
The wind seemed to make the already cold weather even colder.
The Under 11s ran as they tried to play their own game while still warming up.
Mackenzie and Vi's long arms got endless tips and taps, with Alex being great a back-up for the follow-up.
Lexi proved herself to be a fantastic goal shooter and made some great movements in the ring, adding a few goals to her name.
Sisters Harper and Layla played with Harper being loud and encouraging while Layla ran rings around everyone to create space for herself.
Matilda and Tilly both worked extremely hard in whatever position they were given, both chasing up many loose balls.
A great game by the girls.
Awards: Tungamah Shop – Lexi, Crusty Loaf - Layla.
