Held in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month and Daffodil Day, the event aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention and early detection while also providing vital support and connection for those affected by the disease.
Guest speakers included representatives from the Benalla Cancer Support Group and a breast care nurse from the McGrath Foundation, who both shared insights on prevention, early detection, and navigating treatment, while also offering practical tools and resources to support attendees in managing their breast health.
Guest speaker and local mum, farmer and health nurse, Lencia Moll, a breast cancer survivor, shared her personal story as a powerful reminder of the importance of early detection and community support.
Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn said the event reflected the strength and compassion of the community.
“It’s so important that we come together to share knowledge, support one another, and raise awareness about issues that affect so many lives,” Cr Hearn said.
“Council is proud to host events like this that empower our residents and promote health and wellbeing across Benalla Rural City.”
Following the formal session, light refreshments were served, offering time for continued conversation, reflection, and connection among attendees.
Benalla Rural City Council extended its thanks to all who contributed to the event, including the Age Friendly Benalla Reference Group, guest speakers, volunteers, and community members who made the afternoon a success.
Cr Hearn said BRCC hopes to make this an annual event, continuing to provide the community with valuable information, support, and connection.
“In the meantime, community members are encouraged to schedule regular breast cancer screenings, support ongoing research and education efforts,” Cr Hearn said.
“Benalla Rural City Council remains committed to promoting community health and wellbeing through inclusive, accessible programs and events that bring people together and provide meaningful support.”
