YMGCR Bowls
Midweek Pennant had YMGCR play Wodonga in the A1 Grand Final played at Corowa Civic green and in a tough and tight game Wodonga came out on top winning 64/54.
The fab four of Miles, Velardo, Moore and Rempel once again won 26/20. This completed a very rare occurrence where the same rink has gone through the whole season undefeated.
They were in a tight battle all day only to pick up a 5 on the last end to seal their victory.
“GG” green was always in the contest and came out with a 18/18 draw.
Smithy’s rink never got going but showed a lot of ticker to fight it to the end going down 10/26.
To go through the season undefeated only to lose the GF is a bitter pill to swallow and this will be the driving force to go one better next year.
Thanks to all teammates who came along and gave lots of encouragement and to Les for driving the bus and team manager Judy.
Also the scribe would like to congratulate Annie for all the time and effort she put in on the Monday afternoon training sessions and to all the players who turned up.
Wednesday Social Bowls had 30 players play 2 bowl triples and the winners with 2 wins and+21 were Pinkie Lidgerwood, “Nifty” Neville Colemen and a visitor D Pohlner.
Runners up with 2 wins and +19 were Chris Gentle, Rob Hummel and Frank Linerg (great to see Rob back on the green after along lay off due to ill health and the club hope he can master his new stick and get back into pennant next year).
Tuesday was the last night of barefoot bowls and the winners were Garden Lovers, Murray”D’ and Black Bull who all won $200 for their favorite charity.
The runners up were Bruisers, Haacks and the Jimmies who donated $150 to their charity’s and best game winners were MWA, Rotary and Insiders who all won $50.
The Bowls club would like to thank the Golf Club for their fantastic support and sponsorship, and we hope all the players enjoyed themselves for this worthy cause.
ClubMulwala Outdoor Bowls
Midweek Pennant Results – Tuesday, March 30.
Division B1 – FINAL – ClubMulwala (65) defeated Corowa RSL (49).
Cliff Morton, Loris Lochhead, Anita Albert and Stephen McPhee (22) lost to David Muir, Peter Smith, Dominic Carroll and Judith Black (25).
Bruce ‘Digger’ Smith, Daryl Richmond, Carmen Mangan and Graham Albert (20) defeated Keith Mills, Laurie Way, Lynne Mills and Tony Coughlan (13).
Barry Pitt, Betty Richmond, Faye Cook and Wade McPherson (23) defeated Sam Nixon, Janet Davis, Lex Thornton and Tony Townsing (11).
A huge come from behind win for the 2021 B1 Champions.
Trailing all day and with two rinks well behind early the ‘never say die’ attitude that is talked about around the club came to fruition in this game.
What a great contest, great spectator ‘fight’ by the side to overcome the brilliance of their Corowa RSL opposition.
Cliff Morton and his team were 14/3 down early and Barry Pitt’s team down 9/0 early and it did not look pretty there for a while.
Both teams fought back and taking into consideration the overall score closed the gaps in the last half dozen or so ends. Barry got home with Cliff just missing out.
Digger Smith and team played very smart bowls and were never headed with a special mention to Graham Albert who lead wonderfully all day.
Congratulations to both teams who played the game hard but with great sportsmanship and put on a brilliant show for the good number of spectators who attended.

As there are too many to name we won’t even start as we would hate to leave anyone out but we assure you all that it is due to all this help that made it the success it was, Thanks to all.
