Bruce Smith, Daryl Richmond, Carmen Mangan and Graham Albert (17) lost to N. Magee, D. Waring, C. Batten and A. Allen (19).
A very close Preliminary Final with Club Mulwala just coming home with the three shot up that propelled them into the final this week.
A great win by Cliffy Morton and his team to win their rink and also to the other two rinks for their efforts to come back and close the gaps to get the overall win.
This was a great game to watch and was played in great spirit by both teams. Moyhu are a very special group of players who play hard but fair and enjoy their bowls.
A friendly group who acknowledges good bowls on both sides and for such a small club have done extremely well this year. Good luck for the future Moyhu.

Loris Lochhead, Betty Richmond, Doug Chessum and Anita Albert (15) lost to Anthony Fierenzi, Julie Holmquest, Joshua Huggins and Ray Bourke (24).
A disappointing day for the club with both teams not being competitive enough on the day to come away with a win.
The A3’s may have played their final two weeks previously with a powerful win to get into the final and the break didn’t do them any favours. Still the Benalla teams played good competitive bowls all day and never gave up and their win ensured.
Congratulations to the Lakers for their A3 Championship year.
The B2 team struggled all day against a very strong Corowa RSL who got away to a lightening start and were never headed.
The ClubMulwala players can be very proud of the manner in which they fought throughout the game to peg back what was going to be a blinding whitewash. Even though it was a 25 point loss the early indication was it could have been a lot worse.
The Corowa RSL deserved their win and played strong competitive bowls all day. Well done to them and congratulations on your finals win.
The year 2020-2021 - ClubMulwala teams can be extremely proud of their 2020-2021 Season. For a small club we finished with three of four teams with Grand Final appearances which is a huge success in itself.
The Midweek A1 team with its first year in this top competition avoided relegation and will only be better for the experience.
The club will be bitterly disappointed with the weekend results however maybe the hurt will make them hungrier.
The B1 team will have played in their final on the day that this goes to print and we are wishing them success and hope that they have gone one better.
Club Mixed Pairs Competition Final Results – Sunday, March 28.
Mick Millsom and Loris Lochhead (19) defeated Daryl Dighton and Bev Norwood (12).
Mick and Loris got away to a big start and were never in any danger of losing this final even as a good little cameo fight-back by Daryl and Bev was produced in the latter part of the game.
The game was played in good spirits and at one stage it appeared that Loris was ‘wind assisted’ with a great resting toucher.
Congratulations to both teams for the spirit in which the game was played and well done to new Club Mixed Pairs Champions Mick and Loris.

Well, that wraps up the report for this week. There will be plenty happening around the club in the coming weeks and months and you will be kept informed in this forum and on the notice boards.
YMGCR Bowls
Wednesday Social Nominated Pairs had 20 players and the winners were Doc Martin and Greg Fisher and the runners up were Billy ”The Stick Wizard” Jenkins and Shirley Hummel.
How good is it when a player whose bowling career could have been finished with his hand issues, can now get back on the green and enjoy his game of bowls again. (It’s not easy to bowl with a stick, but to Bill’s credit he puts in a lot of practice).
Sunday was the annual break up and Presentation Day at the YMGCR Lagoon area at the golf club; WOW what a great setting, with the lagoon as it’s back drop and plenty of room for everybody to mingle and enjoy themselves.
Many thanks must go to Ian and Marie Morffew, Barb Tennyson, Bucks Brokenshire, Siggi Rempal and Dev for setting up the tables and doing a fantastic job in bringing it all together (and if anyone was missed anyone we do apologise). Also thanks to the MC in Danny McNeill who did a magnificent job who kept the day moving along and the huge job of organizing the yearly bocce tournament.
It was great to see about 60 people turn up with their salads and sweets, it certainly put a few extra inches on stomachs.
Also, Norm “Willie Nelson” Price entertained all afternoon with one great song after another and I (the scribe of the report) certainly went home with a sore throat through singing along with him. (I had a great day … sore throat and bigger stomach)
In the knock out rounds of the bocce championships, Judy Green played some big bocce shots to get her team into the final. Her team of Anne Miles and Lyn Baxter went up against a underrate trio of Carolyn Boston, Andy LeFevre and the “Smiling Assassin” or her other nick name “The Songbird”, Cecilia Milne.
After winning the toss, Boston immediately put the pressure on by putting her bocce ball inside a foot. Miles wilted, LeFevre did nothing, Baxter faulted and then a determined “Songbird” who was in the zone got another 2 close and Green could not save her team this time and they lost the first set. Set 2 started with Miles not getting close again (some smarty from the crowd commented, thank god she can bowl), Boston seized her chance and jumped all over the jack again.
Baxter once again couldn’t handle the pressure and LeFevre had not contributed all day and did nothing again. This time the “Songbird” after a talk with her coach got back in the zone and went for coverage. Once again it was up to the Green machine to save the day but 1 person cannot beat 2 up and coming stars of the bocce circuit and the Boston trio won in straight sets.
Their prizes were a box of chocolates each and it must have been embarrassing for LeFevre to except he was a free loader all tournament.
Poor Bronwyn Lloyd is in for a tough day of washing after her hubby, yes the immaculate Mr Ross Lloyd spilt his shiraz down the front of his shirt.
He later explained that this has never happened before because he normally wears a bib when he goes out drinking on his wine nights with his mates.
President Greg Fisher welcomed everybody and began to present the prizes and trophies to new champions, lady novice Lyn Baxter (luckily she can bowl because she can’t play bocce), runner up Barb Tennyson, men’s novice Col Withers and runner up w Shagga Baxter (who said a few words about his time at the club and how he is enjoying his new sport and he later enjoyed more with a few Carlton Dry’s).
Mixed Pairs was won by Marie Whitehead and Wazza Henderson (they beat Robyn Moore and Bob Evans), Ladies Pairs winners were Laureen Smith and Rhonda Irvine who beat Lyn Baxter and Vicki Withers (this is a great effort by 2 beginners who have only been playing for 8 months to not only make the final but put up a very competitive showing).
The men’s pairs have not been played yet. The Ladies Singles Championship was won by Annie Miles once again and she beat Laureen Smith in one of the best finals ever played at the club. Men’s Singles Championship was won by Garry Sanders who beat Andy LeFevre.
Overall the day was an overwhelming success and everybody had a great day.
Food great, entertainer great and venue great; let’s hope this event gets bigger and better in the future.

Two mats were down. There were lots of fun and laughter as some of the bowls veered off the mats keeping the skips busy.
