A mixed bag of results for the first round of weekend pennant.
Although the full points didn’t come our way, teams showed a deal of promise for the future rounds and were able to identify areas of concern.

Ladies 21 Up - The final was held last Thursday. Laureen Smith defeated Anne Miles and is the Ladies 21 Up.
Men’s 100 Up - Final match - Andy Lefevre is the 2019-2020, 100 Up Champion after defeating Don Ellis. Congratulations Andy.

A2 - YMGCR 97 lost to Mansfield 101. A4 - Club Mulwala 98 defeated YMGCR 81. B2 - Yarrawonga 71 lost to YMGCR 83. B3 – Bye.

Region Reps
Last weekend seven YMGCR bowlers played at Holbrook in the Ovens & Murray side against Albury and District.
The women won 198/100, and the men by just 1 shot.
The local reps were Ray Irvine, Gary Sanders, Anne Miles, Claire Sanders, Caroline Reilly, Sue Middleton and Laureen Smith.
The rink including Anne Miles and Claire Sanders were named as best rink for Women.
Yarrawonga Bowls
Tuesday October 8 - Pennant practice match at YMGCR was planned but this was cancelled due to much needed rain.
Unfortunately, it stopped far too soon. Suppose every little bit helps.
The next 2 bowl triples tournament is on October 30, this is due to Melbourne Cup Day and pennant being played on the Wednesday.
It is a 10am start to coincide with other Clubs starting times.
Pennant Results –
A1 played Corowa Civic at home and won by 6 shots. Well done team!
A3 played Wodonga at Wodonga who proved to be far too strong.
B2 played YMGCR at home and lost.
Social Bowls Results –
Monday October 7 - Winners – M Millson and L Lockhead. Runners Up – M Reilly and E Edwards. The Jackpot was not claimed and will be carried forward to next Monday.
Wednesday October 9 - Winners – K Tait, M Tuttleby and K McQualter. Runners Up – N Marsden, J Park and N Hocking. The jackpot was not claimed and will be carried forward to next Wednesday.
Thursday October 10 was the first night back for Barefoot Bowls. It was well attended and enjoyed by all.
Winners- N Owen and N Lowe. 2nd – F Eade and J Borg. 3rd – J Jolley and P Harwood.
This Week’s Games –
Wednesday, October 16 - Jackpot Triples (numbers permitting), Monday, October 21 - 2-4-2. These games start at 12.30pm and names need to be in by 11am on the day.
Thursday October 17 - Barefoot Bowls, 6pm sausage sizzle for a 6.30pm start.

Results for Monday night October 7 – As there was no 2 games winner, 2 teams each had a win so they played each other – resulting in a draw.
Winners with 27pts were Noel Owen – Jan Stephens – Betty Blick.
Runner Up with 25pts were Judi Cummins – Gwen Owen – Wilf Owen.
Results for Thursday, October 10 – Winners with 31pts were Reg Bryce – Fran Smith – Sue Stillard.
Runner Up with 21pts + 11 were Judi Cummins – Annie King – Pat Crothers – Jill, also with 21pts + 11 were Marna Tomlinson – Jan Stephens – Betty Blick – Noeline Leary.
Good health wishes to Margaret and Val who both have been to Melbourne and had pacemaker implants in the past couple of weeks.
Bowlers please note there will be NO bowls on Thursday, October 24.
The ‘over 80s’ day is being held on Thursday, Octoebr 31, please put your name on the sheet if you are playing or coming but not playing.

Club Mulwala Outdoor Bowls
Notice - The President and Members extend their sympathies to John and Helen Thurling and their families on the recent passing of Johns sister Lyn.

Tuesday, October 8 – Ladies Singles Championship – Round 2.
Close fought battles with some excellent bowling was on display from the ladies taking part in the Singles Championship.
No-one walked away disappointed with their efforts as the following results show:
Bev Norwood 26 def Jan Morton 16; Kaye Smith 25 def Margaret Pretty 22; Faye Cook 25 def Carmen Mangan 23; Anita Albert 25 def Joy Bruce 24.
Wednesday, October 9 – Ladies 100 Up – Round 1.
Disappointingly there were two default wins through a no show and an illness with Margaret Pretty and Faye Cook automatically going through to round 2.
The bowling display put on by the participants of the only game played for the day was top class with Nola Mongor 100 narrowly defeating Jan Morton 97. Great bowling ladies.
Thursday, October 10 – Approximately 40 bowlers attended the last official practice prior to the commencement of the season proper.
Practice was followed by a ‘pie’ night where President Graeme Arnold went through some of the rule changes and pennant teams for Saturday and Tuesday mid-week were announced.
Saturday, October 12 – Round 1 pennant results.
Division A4 – Club Mulwala 98 (16 pts) defeated YMGCR 81 (2 pts).
Ladder Position – 1.
Division B2 – Club Mulwala 68 (10 pts) defeated Rutherglen 66 (4 pts).
Ladder Position – 3.
An excellent start to the season considering the promotions to higher divisions after last year’s championship wins.
Just a reminder (GA) that only 2 bowls per bowler are required for pennant – not 4.

Tungamah Bowls
Tungamah began the pennant season with a win over a less experienced Swanpool team, with Steve Flanagan’s team winning 39/9.
R Thomson went down 18/22 and G Sampson won 57/8.
Overall a good win to Tungamah with 114/39 shots up.
