Originally thought to be separate because of the timing between the two, investigations during repairs revealed they are likely related.
The outage also impacted on the Deniliquin Golf Club and the adjacent Deni Golf Resort, given the second break was discovered at Memorial Park.
Staff and contractors were required to tackle part of the problem while working on the Edward River.
“There was an initial problem in Davidson Street, near Tom Clancy’s mechanics, with a failed water main,” Edward River Council CEO Phil Stone said.
“The likely cause may be the changes in weather causing ground movement and, as a consequence, pipes to crack.
“It is difficult to know with any certainty the exact cause.
“Homes and businesses in several streets of north Deniliquin were affected. Some properties had no water, whilst others have had low water pressure.
“Council crews excavated and repaired the pipe on Sunday. The issue was reported at 3.30am Sunday morning and water supply was returned to the area by 10.30am.”
The second issue originated at Memorial Park, and was discovered about 7pm Sunday evening.
“Originally thought to be a separate issue, it has now been identified as having been connected to the Davidson St works,” Mr Stone said.
“This one was more challenging to fix, with teams needed to work from the river rather than the land.
“The water supply to north Deni needed to be restricted while this problem was attended to.
“Homes and businesses in several streets of north Deniliquin were affected.
“The Deni Golf Resort and Deniliquin Golf Club have also been affected.
“Some properties have had no water, whilst others have had low water pressure.”
Mr Stone said the second issue was reported by council staff, who noticed an unusual dip in the levels of the reservoir that supplies north Deniliquin at around 7pm Sunday.
“Teams worked until midnight on Sunday and from 6am on Monday to identify and fix the problem.
“At the time of this update (12pm Monday ) services were beginning to return to normal and council are confident that services will be restored by the end of the day (Monday).
“Council values the dedication of the outdoor team and contractor - Troy Leetham Plumbing - who have spent significant time and effort over Sunday and Monday in the extreme heat to address both of these water issues.
“These kind of problems are hard to predict and can happen anytime – so the flexibility and willingness of our team is greatly appreciated.”
