Brett Whiteley exhibition to captivate Shepparton art lovers

A major touring exhibition showcasing the works of renowned Australian artist Brett Whiteley will make its final interstate stop at Shepparton Art Museum in June, before returning to NSW.

‘Brett Whiteley: Inside the Studio’ will offer Victorian audiences their only chance to experience the exhibition, which features paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography and ceramics from the Art Gallery of NSW and Brett Whiteley Studio collections.

The free exhibition, curated by Nick Yelverton, includes iconic paintings such as The balcony 2 (1975) and Self portrait in the studio (1976), alongside early abstract works from London and New York in the 1960s, and pieces from Whiteley’s final series, Paris ‘Regard de Côté’.

“Brett Whiteley was an artist who worked prolifically, and his life and practice continues to inspire awe in new audiences,” SAM artistic director Danny Lacy said.

“Inside the Studio brings to life the vibrancy and passion with which Whiteley lived and worked.”

The exhibition will run from June 28 to October 5 in SAM’s Lin Onus Gallery.

An opening celebration will be held on Friday, June 27 at 6pm.

The exhibition has been supported by the Federal Government's Visions of Australia program and will return to Sydney for the reopening of the renovated Brett Whiteley Studio.
