The working group is made up of Rob Purtle Mulwala Progress Association, John Lawless Green Route community group, Ann and Alex Sloane from the Yarrawonga Mulwala Historical Society and Noel Wright from Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism and Business to oversee a centenary celebration for some time in 2024.
Yarrawonga Mulwala Historical Society will be putting together a year-long exhibit of not only the history of the current bridge but the cross river history of the punts, the first bridge in 1891, the current bridge built in 1924 and the very historic customs house located on the southern end of the bridge. The official opening of the present bridge was on December 13, 1924.
The group has not set a date yet for next year’s celebration as it will be dependent on the ability to close the bridge and who might be available to participate in the events.
The group is looking for people with the bridge at heart to express an interest in going on the committee.
Anyone interested can contact John Lawless on 0417 799 516.
