The Bundalong Structure Plan will develop a shared vision for the township and articulate how change in the township will be managed over the next 15 – 20 years.
The most recent planning for the township occurred as part of the Moira Small Town and Settlements Strategy Plan 2013 (Strategy Plan 2013) but due to its strong population growth and unique environmental constraints, council committed to preparing and implementing a new comprehensive structure plan for Bundalong.
Moira Shire administrator Susan Benedyka said that structure plans were important and not often understood until the time that someone goes to undertake a development.
“I heartly endorse the engagement plan and it is the time now to get involved in what that looks like for the future and what needs to be considered, what the community thinks,” Ms Benedyka said.
“I heartly endorse the engagement plan and it is the time now to get involved in what that looks like for the future and what needs to be considered, what the community thinks.”
“I’m looking forward to hearing what comes through the process and how it will shape the structure plan.”
Engagement activities planned will advertised on social media, council’s website and local media, and will include pop up/ drop in engagements in Bundalong, an online engagement session, online survey and targeted engagement with key or underrepresented community groups, such as young people or tourism operators.
A set of broad engagement questions to focus discussions have been developed, being: What do you love about your town and want to protect?
What would you like to see change in your town?
What are your biggest hopes for the future of your town?
What are your biggest fears for the future of your town?
Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
Chair administrator Graeme Emonson said Bundalong was a very popular area that had experienced considerable development and he foreshadowed it would experience further development.
“It is important that we have a properly developed structure plan that will guide the future development of the area so that it continues to be a precinct and location that people are proud of and want to be a part of,” Dr Emonson said.
“It is really important that we engage the community in the future plan for Bundalong. It’s important that the community gets involved in what they would like to see for their community.”
