Held every year as part of Moira Shire Council’s commitment to International Day of People with Disability, the Talent Show was a reminder that focussing on ability rather than limitations can bring extraordinary results.
More than 30 performers sang and danced across the stage on Friday, fully embracing this year’s theme, We Shine Brighter Together.
The concert kicked off with a signing choir, the Signing Stars, from Cobram and District Special School and ended on a bang with all the performers singing the inspirational Try Everything.
The chorus was an encouragement to everyone living with a disability.
“I won’t give up, no I won’t give in; Til I reach the end and then I’ll start again; No, I won’t leave, I wanna try everything; I wanna try even though I could fail.”
Casey sang White Flag, by Dido.
In between the two acts, singers and dancers channelled their inner Wiggles, Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga and Shannon Noll, to name a few, as well as tunes from various musicals, even a Bollywood moment.
Moira Shire Council administrator, Susan Benedyka welcomed the performers, their families and friends to the show, and praised the dedication of all the performers.
“What a superb day; it was incredible,” Ms Benedyka said following the concert.
“The way the performers interacted with the audience and the pride people had in their performances was wonderful.
“My face is aching from smiling and I had tears of joy in my eyes.”
Under the sea with David, who channelled Henry the Octopus from The Wiggles.
Georgie Tomlin, who came up with the idea for the All Abilities Talent Show, sang her own original composition called My Own Super Hero (Save Myself).
“I wrote this song when I was going through a really hard time to make me feel better,” Georgie told the audience.
“Remember if you’re going through a hard time there’s someone out there to help you.”
