Geoff Campbell and Ian Hargreaves (posthumous award) were recognised for 60 years while James Regan, Angus Campbell, Jennie Hammon and Joe Nunn received medals for 35 years of volunteering.
Other service award recipients were Daniel Thackray (25 years), Nico Courtney and Anthony Hammon (10 years).
CFA acting assistant chief fire officer Rohan Taylor presented the awards, saying the authority was grateful for the time and effort people gave to serve the community as firefighters and supporters of the brigade.
Wilby Fire Brigade Captain Lyndon Hart said it was an important day in the brigade’s history, with more than 370 years of service being recognised.
Mr Hart said the brigade – which was established in 1948 – is working with District 22 headquarters in Shepparton to remain in a position to “continue to meet community expectations as it continually grows”.
Mr Hargreaves, known as ‘Paddy’, was also honoured with a plaque recognising his service to the Wilby CFA. The plaque was attached to a former Wilby football ground goalpost recovered and donated by Paddy, and now used as a flagpole.
Hargreaves, who passed away age 78 in March, was fondly remembered for diligently attending callouts as well as making sure the truck and equipment at the fire station were always in top shape.
National Medals - which recognise and honour those who have served in police, fire, protective, correctional and emergency services - were also presented.
The circular bronze medals with the Australian coat of arms recognise diligent service for a period of 15 years, while clasps are added for each 10 years of additional service.
Awards went to Geoff Campbell, Robert Glover, Peter Hammon and, posthumously, Ian Hargreaves (15 years and third clasp); Richard Inchbold, Craig Prescott, John Schneider and Russell Whinray (15 years and second clasp); Angus Campbell, Jennifer Hammon, James Regan, Daniel Thackray, Helen White and, posthumously, Doug White (15 years and one clasp); Lyndon Hart, Adam Inchbold, Peter Mansfield, Keith White, Robbie White and Joe Nunn (15 years).
The Wilby Fire Brigade would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the brigade and welcomes new members. For further information contact Mr Hart on 0417 522 456.
