OPT’s director Jacob Coad said the night was a smashing success, selling 200 tickets and raising more than $3000 for the Moama teenager’s family.
“We initially released 160 tickets for the capacity online, and we released another 20 and sold those in 20 minutes,” he said.
“We allowed space for another 20 on the night, so the overall capacity was 200, and we reached that capacity.”
Mr Coad said it was an unexpected result, as this was the first time the event had been held.
“I’ve been putting events together since 2018 and this was such a highlight,” he said.
“At the start of the night it was like school, with everyone standing with their own groups, and then by the end of the night, they were all dancing together and screaming along to the songs.”
The community reaction to the event has been strong and supportive, with district young people and parents messaging the OPT Facebook page to find out how the event was going to work.
The event raised funds for the ongoing care of Xavier Edwards, who was paralysed when he fell from his bike while riding with friends earlier this year.
Mr Coad has recognised members of the community who made the event possible.
“Belinda Brasher and Danielle Myers contacted me back in April, told me the story and organised the whole thing,” he said.
“I was grateful that they asked us to do it.”
“Thanks to everyone who volunteered their time and the DJs — Steve Stratton, Tom Whitehead and Riley Power.”
