One of higher profile events, being the Bruce Bond Trophy, has been run and won.
Bruce was a long-time member and secretary of the club and all players are keen to get their name engraved on the perpetual memento of Bruce’s service.
Preliminary rounds were played over the week leading up to final night on March 22, with the decider between Tony Cincotta and Heie Hansen over the best of 3 frame format.
Tony took all before him last season and Heie is rapidly getting back to form after a long layoff from the game.
Frame 1 saw Heie leading with only 3 balls left on the table but Tony came back with a great snooker on the pink to take the frame 49/36.
Frame 2 saw Heie come roaring back to level the scores with a 56/19 effort that included a number of sweet shots.
The decider saw Tony jump out to a good lead of 42/29 with the colours left on the table but Heie continued his comeback to pot a sensational pink to the middle that saw the cue ball dislodging the black from the bottom cushion.
Heie held his nerve to pot the deciding black for a 51/47 victory in what was a fitting tribute to Bruce Bond’s memory.
Congratulations to both players on the standard of the final and thanks to President Darren for arranging the event.
Social play on Wednesday, March 24 saw the final being fought out between Club Treasurer Daryl McKernan and new member Chris Page, who is possibly more well known for his golfing prowess. Daryl got the chocolates for his second win on the trot but Chris is plotting his revenge for another day.
Monday, March 29 was the playing of another of the Board events in the Ted Cooksey Memorial.
A large field contested the evening with 4 rounds being required to identify the finalists. Dave Mark and Russell Styles eventually squared off in the final table and Russell showed he has lost none of his touch by taking it out with a very good performance.
Congratulations to Darren on his play and also to Dave on making his first board event final.
Social play on Wednesday, March 31 saw Debbie Harbrow continuing her very good run of recent form with a win over Hans Lang in another well contested evening.
Debbie and Hans have been very consistent of late and the handicapper is sure to be paying attention to their results.
