Tim Richard’s travel talk a big hit
Freelance travel writer and Lonely Planet guidebook contributor Tim Richards visited the Yarrawonga Library to share stories about his work as a travel writer.

Tim spoke to a packed audience, highlighting his tales with a slide show of his train journey across Europe.
Yarrawonga Library Co-ordinator Kerry Curry said Tim’s insights into travel writing were very interesting, and the places he visited looked beautiful.
“I do wonder if people that attended would go home and Google some of the places and then there would be a mass exodus from Yarrawonga to Europe,” Ms Curry said.
“He talked about galleries, his love of food culture and visiting places, even in the large cities, that were unusual or new and undiscovered.
“Everyone was captivated by the talk, and while the building was at maximum capacity, everyone is looking forward to a larger space for these events in the new Yarrawonga Library.”

Kylie Orr is an author of dark and twisty contemporary fiction. Her debut novel Someone Else’s Child, published by HarperCollins in 2022, was longlisted in the Richell Prize.
Her second novel The Eleventh Floor hit shelves in February 2024 and was chosen as an Apple Books "Must Read" and "Book of the Week" in The Age and affiliate newspapers nationally.
Through her books, Kylie delves into the complex stories of everyday people and their secret lives behind closed doors.

Gilmore St memorial completed

A major upgrade of the WW1 Memorial on Gilmore St was completed for Anzac Day.
Kevin Phillips, Gary True and Bruce Pigdon OAM, members of the Yarrawonga Mulwala RSL Sub-Branch, were responsible for the renovation and a new garden featuring hardy Australian natives.
Kevin, Gary and Bruce, on behalf of the RSL Sub-Branch, want to thank and acknowledge Bunnings who were the major sponsors by contributing most of the materials for the upgrade.
“Tim Roadley was magnificent with his contribution of time and effort, expertly leading the Bunnings team of helpers,” Mr Pigdon said.
Judd & Sons, together with Ron Sharp, David Sciberras, Graeme Ford, June Lavis and Margaret True were also significant contributors to the finished project.
Michael Hogan, President of the local Sub-Branch, added his hearty congratulations to what was a team effort and encouraged the community to call at the memorial and pause to reflect on the local Diggers who served our country in WW1.
"It was a job very well done and proudly accomplished by our members in readiness for ANZAC Day,” Mr Hogan said.
“The assistance of Bunnings, Judd & Sons and community members made the whole project feasible, resulting in a memorial worthy of our Diggers."
